| On Wednesday August 31st, several Colorado Humane Society volunteers heard the call for help from the Gulf coast region. Shelters asking for help via the web. Volunteers donated supplies to the society which filled 5 animal control trucks and our animal rescue van to transport supplies and help the animal victims of Katrina. Our Volunteers called the press and the result was amazing. For three days the greater metro Denver community brought supplies including water, food, Kennels, bowls etc. to our shelter. On Saturday, September 3rd at 9 am, the convey left the shelter for the south.
The supplies are being taken to a temporary shelter/staging area in Monroe, LA that is currently housing the animals that are owned by the survivors in the shelters. The animals are also going to a shelter in Mississippi that put out a plea, saying they only had food and water to care for the animals for 8 more hours. We will be to them in four hours!
The situation in The Gulf Region is flooded making communication lines stressed, but we will continue to update you as information comes in.
Then again on Saturday, Sept. 10th another group left to the south this time bringing an eight-teen wheeler semi with even more supplies. There is another semi awaiting to head to the south once it is full of donations.
Thank you all so much for you wonderful outreach, these donated supplies are going directly to where they will be gratefully put to use in saving the lives of many animals.
